Nutrition plays a key role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Starting young is a great start to healthy living, let us educate our children to eat healthily and stay fit. A kid’s healthy eating plate is a visual guide to help educate and encourage children to eat well and keep moving.
A healthy eating plate consists of a balanced diet containing 30% bowls of cereal, 40% vegetables,10% fruits, and 20% proteins (including milk and milk products). Let us aim for around 1/2 our food comes from fruits and vegetables 1/4th from whole grains and 1/4th from proteins. Putting all these together not only make our plate look colorful but also provide us with a mixture of minerals, nutrients, vitamins, proteins and fiber, which form our daily calorie and energy source.
Let us make sure to drink plenty of fluids in form of water and natural fruit juices. And sparingly consume high glycemic non nutritious foods like Burgers, French fries, Ice-creams, Colas, Chocolates. Regular exercising and staying active must be our goals along with healthy eating practices with proper nutrition. Inculcating these habits into our day to day life’s help children in staying active, good academic performance, fight infections and diseases, and promote overall growth and development.
Eat healthy and stay healthy.
1. Sources of whole grain: rice, oats, wheat, barley, wheat berries, quinoa, oats, brown rice.
2. Sources of proteins: fish, beans, nuts, meat, milk and milk products.
3. Healthy oils: olive oil, soy, sunflower, corn, peanut, canola, corn and others.
