How Oakridge Codefest unleashes students’ coding potential

“Everybody should learn to program a computer, because it teaches you how to think.” – Steve Jobs
Is your child interested in coding and technology? Do you know what it takes to come up with creative solutions to real-world problems? If so, then you won’t want to miss out on Oakridge Codefest, our annual student-run overnight hackathon for Grade 6-12 students.
Before diving into Oakridge Codefest – 2023, let us see why knowledge of programming languages is an essential 21st-century life skill. Won’t it be a burden for school children to learn HTML, CSS, PHP, and Python? The answer is “No”. Research at MIT shows that coding is beneficial for cognitive development. It’s always earlier the better.
Learning a programming language is like learning how to build. At Oakridge, we have a well-equipped Design Lab that allows our learners to create innovative, sustainable, human-centred solutions for the problems they identify. We have a research corner with laptops and peripheral devices for students to inquire and investigate through technology.
Why participate in Oakridge Codefest 2023?
Oakridge Codefest is a great way for students to network with peer tech aspirants and learn more about potential career paths. Participating in a hackathon can also be a fun and rewarding experience, as it allows students to work on creative projects on various themes. Transport & Infrastructure, Education, Environmental Sustainability, Healthcare, and Game Development are the themes of this year. “We have already started the 3-week rigorous training for our students who will be competing at the national-level hackathon with students across the country”, says Aloysius Pinto, our design facilitator.
Why waiting? Don’t miss out on your opportunity to be a part of Bengaluru’s largest 24-hour high school hackathon on 21st and 22nd January 2023!
