How Oakridge Codefest unleashes students’ coding potential

“Everybody should learn to program a computer, because it teaches you how to think.” – Steve Jobs
Is your child interested in coding and technology? Do you know what it takes to come up with creative solutions to real-world problems? If so, then you won’t want to miss out on Oakridge Codefest, our annual student-run overnight hackathon for Grade 6-12 students. Before diving into Oakridge Codefest – 2024, let us see why knowledge of programming languages is an essential 21st-century life skill.
Won’t it be a burden for school children to learn HTML, CSS, PHP, and Python? The answer is “No”. Research at MIT shows that coding is beneficial for cognitive development. It’s always earlier the better. Learning a programming language is like learning how to build. At Oakridge, we have a well-equipped Design Lab that allows our learners to create innovative, sustainable, human-centred solutions for the problems they identify. We have a research corner with laptops and peripheral devices for students to inquire and investigate through technology.
Oakridge Codefest is a great way for students to network with peer tech aspirants and learn more about potential career paths. Participating in a hackathon can also be a fun and rewarding experience, as it allows students to work on creative projects on various themes.
Eco-tourism, Pedagogical Tools, Urban Transit Solutions, AI on Edge Compute Platforms, Fintech Innovation, and Game Development are the themes of this year.
“We prepare our students for Codefest through workshops and hands-on exercises from the beginning of the academic year. They have already started brainstorming design ideas with their teams.”, says Ms Malarkodi, our ICT Head of the Department.
Why waiting? Don’t miss out on your opportunity to be a part of Bengaluru’s largest 24-hour high school hackathon on 20th and 21st January 2024!
