What Makes Oakridge a Great School to Teach & Learn
- 19 August 2025
When you walk through Oakridge corridors at 7:30 AM, you’ll see something special happening. Students aren’t just arriving at school – they’re coming home to a community where they truly believe, belong, and become the best of who they are.
Oakridge International School Bengaluru is part of the Nord Anglia family, which means our 90000+ students connect with peers across 30 countries. This makes transnational engagements easier for Oakridgers. Last year, our MYP students collaborated with their peers in Compass School, Doha on a French Language Exchange Programme. Our teachers regularly attend conferences in London and Boston, bringing fresh ideas back to Bengaluru. It’s not just about being international on paper – it’s lived daily.
Our school day runs 7:45 AM to 2:00 PM, but learning never stops. Every Wednesday, our corridors buzz with energy during LEAP (Learning Enrichment Activities Programme). Students run their own debate club, build rockets in the STEAM lab, and perfect their moves in dance rehearsals. What started as beyond school activities has evolved into student-driven passion projects.
Take Sachit from DP 2, who started our Rocketry Club after attending a workshop at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Or Nia & Saanvi, whose Social Impact club connect students to real-world challenges through structured opportunities for dialogue, reflection, and collaborative action. These two are only a part of 10+ diverse student clubs in school.
IB framework at Oakridge isn’t just curriculum; it’s how we see each child. We use cognitive assessments to understand how students learn best, then adapt our teaching accordingly. Some need extra support, others crave challenges – we meet everyone where they are.
Secondary students (MYP & DP) at Oakridge now have subject classrooms, a dynamic learning methodology. Teachers can tailor environments to subject needs in dedicated spaces. Students moving between classes refresh for each subject while building independence and responsibility, enhancing the overall learning experience.
When our students compete in interscholastic events or organize OAKMUN and Phoenix Cup, they’re not just representing the school – they’re building confidence that will serve them for life. Last year’s World Scholar’s Cup team didn’t just win global rounds; they came back talking about global citizenship and their responsibility to make change happen.
Educational trips at Oakridge International School aren’t tourist excursions. Students engage in interactive sessions with the guides, listen to expert narrations, and participate in activities that connect their understanding to the IB learning journey. Learning jumps off textbook pages into real experiences.
Every student knows they can walk into our counselor’s office without judgment. Whether it’s friendship drama, academic stress, or bigger life challenges, support is always available. Our infirmary isn’t just for scraped knees – it’s where students learn they matter enough to be cared for properly.
Career guidance starts early here. By Grade 8, students are exploring university options worldwide. Our partnership with CIALFO means they get real help with applications, not just generic advice. Admission officers from top universities visit regularly (minimum 10 times) in an academic year, making future possibilities feel achievable.
We celebrate everything – small victories in assemblies, major achievements in social media, breakthrough moments in hallway conversations. When a shy student finally speaks up in debate club or when someone master’s a difficult math concept, the whole classrooom notices.
The disciplinary system at Oakridge handles mistakes with grace. Our restorative approach means students learn from poor choices rather than facing punishment. They understand that being part of Oakridge means growing into better versions of themselves.
Our teachers don’t just teach – they innovate. They attend Harvard workshops, collaborate with King’s College London & MIT Boston researchers, and pilot new programs. Professional growth isn’t an afterthought; it’s expected and supported.
The Wednesday LEAP program energizes our educators too. Watching teachers discover hidden talents in students, seeing shy kids become confident leaders, witnessing breakthrough moments – this is why we chose education.
Walk through our school during lunch break. You’ll see Grade 12 students mentoring younger ones, teachers joining student-led initiatives, and Global Campus video calls happening in multiple languages. You’ll hear laughter, passionate debates, and the sound of genuine learning.
Our students leave here not just college-ready, but world-ready. They carry confidence, empathy, and skills that make them valuable wherever they go. Recent graduates are studying at Johns Hopkins, Duke, Georgia Tech and top Indian universities, but more importantly, they’re making positive impacts in their communities.
Oakridge isn’t just where we work – it’s a space that we believe in, we belong to, and we become. It’s where teaching feels like calling and learning feels like adventure. That’s what makes us a truly great place to teach and learn.
