Update from the Principal’s Desk | April 2026

Dear Oakridge Family,

When students take charge and bring together their peers, teachers, and parents, what we see is more than participation. We see a real sense of belonging. When this comes together with a social cause or a meaningful inquiry, it reminds us of the power a community holds to create impact. This month, we experienced this in two powerful ways: Relay for Life and the PYP Exhibition.

Relay for Life: United by a Shared Cause

Relay for Life brought our entire community together around a shared purpose. It reminded us that education is not only about achievement. It is also about empathy, resilience, and standing by one another in difficult times.

As students unite to support a cause larger than themselves, they experience compassion and resilience. They also learn the importance of standing alongside others during challenging times. At the heart of our philosophy is the belief that students should not only participate, but lead. This event was a true reflection of that commitment.

Together, our community raised over ₹3,00,000 for the Indian Cancer Society. More importantly, we came together for a night of walking, reflection, and connection. Staying awake through the night symbolised the strength of those who continue to fight. It reinforced a simple but powerful belief—that when we come together, we become stronger.

We were also privileged to have Dr. Leslie Williams, our Global Head of Social Impact, with us. Her conversations with students, teachers, and parents added depth to our understanding. They highlighted how shared values and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) bring communities together with a common purpose: to contribute meaningfully to the world around us.

PYP Exhibition: Curiosity, Voice, and Action

The PYP Exhibition gave us another lens into how belonging is built through curiosity, voice, and action. It begins with curiosity. It grows through understanding and takes shape through action.

Our students explored themes such as Life on Land, Life Below Water, and Climate Change. These were approached not as isolated topics, but as real-world challenges connected to the environment and the communities, we are part of. What stood out was not just what they learned, but how they engaged with these ideas. They presented their learning through displays, talks, hands-on projects, and performances. Through this process, students developed essential skills. These included thinking critically, researching with purpose, communicating clearly, and collaborating with respect. The Exhibition is a powerful culmination of the Primary Years journey. It also lays the foundation for how IB learning builds across the continuum, through MYP Community Projects, the Personal Project, and the Extended Essay in the Diploma Programme.

Together, We Make It Possible

Such experiences are made possible by the strength of our community. Our teachers, who encourage and help design these journeys as parents support and engage, for students to step forward with confidence and purpose. Together, they remind us of what we are building. The students are not only learning, but they are also finding their voice, making choices, and beginning to understand that they belong to something larger than themselves. It is through experiences like these that we nurture compassionate, future-ready individuals. These are young people who will not only navigate the world ahead, but shape it with empathy, responsibility, and intent.
