Oakridge International School, Visakhapatnam has always been responsible towards the society and environment. The school has a unique partnership with UNICEF through Nord Anglia Education, promoting the UN SDGs.

A day after the mega clean-up drive organized by the GVMC, the student UNICEF Team of Oakridge International School, Visakhapatnam (OISV) organized another Beach Clean Up Drive at R. K. Beach on 27 August 2022 with a commitment to save their beaches and keep the beauty of this City of Destiny intact. Despite the rain students, parents and staff enthusiastically participated in the beach cleaning drive and pledged to say no to single-use plastic. They urged that such clean-ups should be a continuous effort by  till the battle against marine pollution is won.

“Making Visakhapatnam plastic-free is our aim and contributing to our goal, Oakridge has taken wonderful initiatives to Save Oceans since 2016. I invite all other schools to come forward as well and be part of such initiatives and make Vizag plastic-free” said Smt. G. Hari Venkata Kumari, Mayor of Visakhapatnam, addressing students.

The major objective of the beach clean-up drive was to create awareness among vizagites and to analyze the magnitude of marine pollution at the beach. Students have collected samples of sand and water from the beach to examine the level of pollution.

Thanking the authorities, Mr. Amit Jain, Director, Oakridge said, “We have been advocating to Save Our Oceans for the past 6+ years. This year our students have planned a yearlong Ocean Conservation campaign to make our city clean and beautiful. It’s high time we all come together to stop polluting our environment by not using single-use plastic.”
