Cultural Activities

Participation in cultural activities add an exciting dimension to the learning experience at Oakridge International School, Visakhapatnam. Cultural activities also form an integral part of a student’s overall development in our school, where various activities are conducted from time to time. Teachers and staff work to offer a diverse range of programmes that give every student a chance to get excited and get involved in order to pursue new interests. Co-curricular programmes at our school range from physical education to creative arts to community outreach, helping develop interpersonal, leadership and communication skills in our students. Year-round literary and cultural competitions and the House system help reinforce team spirit and confidence in our students. These activities give children the impetus, in an atmosphere of constructive and healthy competition, to discover individual talents. The belief in a well-rounded education is taken a step further at Oakridge Visakhapatnam, which are interest-based electives offered to Grade 4 and above. We offer dance, drama, visual arts and music- vocals, keyboard, guitar. Your child will have a plethora of opportunities, round the year, to showcase and celebrate their creative output.

We offer students a plethora of instruments and voice lessons where students are prepared by our excellent teachers to play and sing for the external exams of Trinity College. Our students study aspects of World Music, learning to compose and perform proficiently. When our students reach a certain level of competence, we encourage participation in ensemble performances and our regular Music celebrations. Making music together is fun, satisfying and rewarding.

We offer unique and fun-filled programmes towards acting lessons used around the world to help students develop confidence, creative thinking, public speaking skills, enhancing self-esteem, acting abilities, leadership and teamwork. Students are encouraged to participate in our school festivals as well as the annual One Act Play Festival, which is a student-led play where our students select, organize and direct the plays. Theatre art skills are taught to our students during the cultural period. Our students are prepared by the teachers to take external exams of Trinity College.

Art forms such as western, folk and classical are taught to our students with an aim to not only to teach dance, but to give confidence and a sense of achievement. Our focus for our students is to reach their full potential while they leave their classes feeling content and successful. We create a strong sense of community among our dancers and their families and provide our students with a safe, fun and positive environment so our students can encourage, support, motivate and inspire each other.

We offer students to learn art forms such as painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, design, crafts architecture etc. Visual Arts is one of the mandatory subjects of the arts education key learning area. It assists students in their acquisition of artistic and aesthetic experiences, knowledge, skills, values and attitude, all of which contribute to students’ whole-person development. It also provides a curriculum framework for senior secondary students who take Visual Arts as a subject and go through the public and Advanced Level Art Examination. The Art education emphasizes both art appreciation and criticism and art making. There is also a greater emphasis on studying the contextual character of the visual arts. The Art curriculum emphasizes the further development of the mind to which the visual arts can contribute.
