Oakridge International School, Visakhapatnam encourages its students to participate in Outdoor Leadership Camps that are designed to challenge the students both physically and mentally in order to strengthen their inner core and mettle. This year about 88 students and 12 teachers were a part of the four day leadership camp that was organized at Hyderabad.

In the camp students experienced activities like Caving, Scrambling, Golden Boulder Hiking, Rappelling, Zip-lining conducted by the facilitators from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. They also explored the “Art of Storytelling” through non-verbal communication, collaborated with peers and explored their journey through a theatrical composition. ‘Ingredi Hunt’ –  a fun treasure hunt helped them to learn how to use a compass to navigate in the wilderness.  Students also cooked a traditional feast – learnt to pick/procure, clean and cook in teams, focusing on taste and quality as much as presentation and time management.

Ms Shaila Bhamidipati, Principal Oakridge International School said that “The primary objective of the camp was to provide an educational experience for students to develop skills that will assist them with the challenges they will face in the future.”

Adding to that, Amit Jain, Director Oakridge said, “These off-site camps empower students to succeed and teach valuable skills of collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving along with some basic survival techniques.”
