OAK Spirit Week: A Student-Led Initiative Fostering Resilience

  • 18 July 2025

At a time when academic performance often takes centre stage, Oakridge International School Mohali is championing a more holistic definition of student success.

A Week of Self-Discovery and Leadership

Earlier this month, our IBDP 2 students planned, executed and hosted OAK Spirit Week: The Spectrum Within, a five-day celebration of creativity, identity, and self-expression for students from Grades Nursery to 12. And while it featured themed dress-up days — from Pyjama Day to Bollywood Bash — this wasn’t about costumes. It was about character.

Each day of Spirit Week, a student led initiative, tapped into a different layer of identity. “Tryout Thursday”, where the students were encouraged to dress up as the version of themselves that they want to become i.e. doctors, athletes, artists etc. “The Time Travel Wednesday” event welcomed the students to travel to the past or into the future, thus integrating it with their research, cultural awareness, and creative thinking skills.

This correlates well with the IB Learner Profile, which promotes the development of inquirers, risk-takers, communicators, a framework Oakridge Mohali integrates deeply into daily life.

As one of the best schools in Mohali and Chandigarh as well as a member of the global Nord Anglia Education group, the school manages to find the right balance between academic rigour, emotional intelligence and practical relevance.

Creativity as a Catalyst for Growth

Ms. Mona Rana, a parent of two, one from Grade 6 and other from grade 3 shared, “It’s one of those rare school events where kids aren’t just following instructions — they’re leading, planning, collaborating. They’re learning life.”

This is precisely the kind of environment Oakridge Mohali cultivates — one that blends academic excellence with emotional intelligence, enabling students to discover who they are, not just what they know.

Empowering Future-Ready Learners in Punjab

The city of Mohali is rapidly emerging as a centre of new-generation education in the state of Punjab – where an increasingly cosmopolitan population of families is seeking schools that offer more than rote learning.

“Spirit Week showed us that school isn’t just about books — it’s about becoming a future leader to excellence.

The broader message here is hard to ignore. With many places, their traditional pathways in career may dictate how students anticipate what is possible, creativity such as OAK Spirit week can create a different form of quiet revolution, one that teaches the students to think, speak, and lead.

Because in the world our children are growing into, knowing the answer matters — but knowing who you are matters more.
