How Global Learning Experiences at Oakridge Open Doors to International Universities

As Ms Dipika Rao, the Principal, explains: “Being a part of Nord Anglia Education, which has about 97 schools across the globe, we have centralised online experiential learning in the form of Global Campus.”
Global Campus hosts a range of age-appropriate activities and competitions in which students from different schools can participate, collaborate, and share ideas. Opportunities range from music, theatre, and story writing to reading and writing activities. Students can take part individually or as part of a group, using their own login credentials to access activities from school or home.
According to the Principal, these experiences expose students to different perspectives and ways of thinking: “These opportunities give them exposure to how children from across the globe are articulating a topic, analysing it, sharing their perspectives, and presenting their findings.”
As students move into Grades 9 to 12, global learning experiences are complemented by more focused university and career guidance.
The school supports students in understanding their strengths and aptitudes through psychometric testing, counselling support, and guidance around subject selection. These decisions are closely linked to students’ future aspirations, particularly the universities and courses they are considering.
Alongside academic planning, students are encouraged to build experiences that contribute to a broader student profile. Over their final years of schooling, students may engage in internships, guest lectures, Model United Nations conferences, TEDx events, leadership camps, personal projects, and CAS initiatives.
Students also have opportunities to showcase their CAS involvement through CASnival. Programmes such as Negotium bring business leaders into the school for discussions and forums, allowing students to engage with professionals from a range of industries.
Together, these experiences help students connect classroom learning with wider contexts and interests.
The school’s approach is ultimately centred on helping students make informed choices about their futures.
Reflecting on a recent DP2 graduate, the principal shared the story of a student who achieved strong academic results and contributed to social impact initiatives yet chose a path different from what others might expect. Despite receiving offers from leading universities, he decided to spend the next few years in India gaining industry experience before expanding globally.
For the Principal, this example highlights that success is not simply about university names but about making decisions that align with individual goals and values.
A similar quality was evident in alumnus Arjun Gondi, an international-level squash player who eventually chose Yale University. What stood out was the thoughtfulness behind the decision-making process. Rather than focusing solely on rankings or prestige, he evaluated which university best aligned with his aspirations and long-term vision.
These examples illustrate an important principle: students are encouraged to understand their own strengths, interests, and ambitions before making significant educational choices.
