Teaching at Oakridge – An IB PYP Journey
- 21 August 2025
Every morning, as I walk into Oakridge International School Mohali, my heart lights up. I know who’s waiting for me — my Grade 1 IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) family. The warm hugs, bright smiles, and cheerful “Good morning, Ma’am!” make my day before it has even started.
At Oakridge Mohali IB Primary Years Programme classes, our mornings often begin with stories. Sometimes I read to them, sometimes they read to me, and sometimes they create their own. They share new games, funny jokes, or books they enjoyed at home. These little exchanges are treasures that set the tone for joyful learning.
In the IB PYP at Oakridge International School Mohali, student voice is central. During our unit Who We Are, I asked them about their role models. Without hesitation, they named P.V. Sindhu, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Their dreams and clarity at such a young age reflect the power of an international curriculum in Mohali — one that blends global perspectives with cultural identity.
Teaching at Oakridge Mohali has broadened my own horizons. I’ve realised that learning never stops. My students, with their kindness, creativity, curiosity, and courage, have become my greatest teachers. Each child brings something unique to our classroom, making it feel like a vibrant bouquet of flowers.
In our IB Primary Years Programme in Mohali, curiosity drives discovery. I recall a young learner asking, “Ma’am, why is the sky blue?” Explaining how sunlight scatters to make the sky appear blue sparked joy in her eyes — a moment of science made magical through curiosity.
When I introduced skip counting, two children decided to start from 3 and keep going… all the way to 273! Such perseverance shows how the best school in Mohali nurtures not just academic skills but resilience, determination, and teamwork.
At Oakridge International School Mohali, learning goes far beyond lessons and books. It’s a place where questions are celebrated, dreams are nurtured, and values are instilled. Students engage in activities like Model United Nations (MUN), debate competitions, and book donation drives — building global awareness while staying rooted in local traditions.
As I leave at the end of the day, I carry the laughter, “Aha!” moments, and warmth of my little learners. For me, the greatest reward of teaching is shaping compassionate, globally minded citizens right here in Punjab.
