Academic Excellence and Wellbeing Go Hand in Hand at Oakridge International School Gachibowli

  • 16 July 2026

Many parents want their children to be ambitious, motivated, and capable of achieving strong academic outcomes. At the same time, they also want them to feel confident, supported, and able to manage challenges without becoming overwhelmed. Increasingly, the question is not whether academic excellence or wellbeing matters more, but how a school creates the conditions for them to develop together.

At Oakridge International School Gachibowli, wellbeing is not treated as something separate from learning. Instead, it is woven into the school’s approach to goal setting, reflection, student support, and skill development, helping students build the habits and self-awareness needed to navigate academic challenges with confidence.

Creating ownership through goal setting and reflection

As Ms Anubha Jain, Student Counsellor, explains, “At the beginning of the academic year, students are encouraged to set both personal and academic goals. They revisit and reflect on these goals each term, identifying progress made and developing action plans to achieve them.”

These discussions continue through Parent-Student-Teacher Meetings (PSTMs), where students, parents, and teachers review progress together. This creates a shared understanding of expectations and support strategies while ensuring that students remain active participants in the process.

For parents, this provides a clear answer to an important question: academic progress is not viewed only through assessment outcomes, but also through ongoing reflection, goal setting, and personal growth.

Looking beyond academic performance alone

At Oakridge, student development is measured through more than academic rigour. Social-emotional learning lessons and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills are integrated into the curriculum, helping students develop reflection, empathy, self-awareness, and responsible decision-making. These experiences encourage students to consider not only how they are learning, but also how their actions and behaviours affect those around them.

This structured focus on self-awareness helps students better understand their own wellbeing and develop skills that support positive relationships, effective learning habits, and greater personal responsibility.

Building resilience through everyday learning

Academic challenge is an important part of growth, but students also need support in developing the skills required to manage those challenges effectively.

To foster a growth mindset, learning experiences are supported by teachers, psychologists, and inclusion specialists who help students navigate age-appropriate challenges such as emotional regulation, cybersafety, gender sensitisation, and conflict resolution.

Ms Jain explains, “Ongoing assessments paired with feedforward help students identify and work on their focus areas. Challenges are treated as opportunities for skill acquisition.”

Students are also encouraged to develop confidence and self-management through a range of experiences, including clubs, student-led events such as Model United Nations, and CAS initiatives. These opportunities allow them to reflect on their learning, recognise strengths, identify areas for improvement, and take responsibility for their development.

The school’s class buddy system further strengthens this culture by encouraging peer support, shared responsibility, and collaboration throughout the school day.

Balancing challenge with support

At Oakridge, student wellbeing remains central to the learning model. Teachers and Senior Leadership Team members regularly monitor both academic engagement and emotional wellbeing through classroom observations and ongoing interactions with students.

PSTMs provide another important layer of support by bringing together students, parents, and teachers to review goals and identify strategies that may be needed. When additional support is required, psychologists and inclusion specialists provide focused interventions related to areas such as goal setting, time management, and emotional regulation.

A culture that supports long-term growth

At Oakridge International School Gachibowli, academic ambition and student wellbeing are not viewed as competing priorities. Through structured goal setting, regular reflection, social-emotional learning, ongoing feedback, and targeted support systems, students are encouraged to challenge themselves while developing the skills needed to manage that challenge effectively.

The result is a learning environment where students are expected to strive for their best, while also building self-awareness, resilience, and confidence along the way. These foundations support not only academic progress today but also the ability to navigate future opportunities and challenges with purpose.

Parents who would like to understand more about the school’s approach to student growth and support are welcome to continue the conversation with Oakridge’s academic support teams.
