Dear Parents,

I extend a warm welcome to the August edition of our school’s monthly newsletter.

These monthly newsletters showcase a perfect amalgamation of the wide range of academic and non-academic programmes that are arranged by school to add context to student’s learning and offer avenues to showcase their engagement.

This month unfolded with outstanding achievement of our Middle Years Programme (MYP) students. Their dedication and hard work have yielded remarkable results, that will support them in making right academic choices for themselves.

The successful conclusion of Negotium 2.0, a programme with the concept of ‘Shark Tank’ is a testament to the futuristic education provided at Oakridge, where our innovative learners presented their entrepreneurial ideas. We also hosted three different University Fairs, providing a platform for Oakridgers to explore higher education opportunities.

While our seniors explored their future prospects, our juniors embarked upon the exploration and experiential learning through a variety of field trips. All this and a lot more including the heartwarming stories of our students’ outreach programmes for underprivileged communities, making a positive impact on the society are included in this edition.

As the year progresses, we continue to create memories that will shape our students’ learning journey.

Catch the glimpse of how Oakridge Gachibowli hosted not one, not two, but THREE remarkable university fairs, giving an edge to the students of grade 9-12 to carve a career path for themselves. They had the privilege of connecting with representatives from renowned universities from India and around the globe. From America to Europe, from Asia to Oceania!

BAKE FOR A CHANGE

Making a Difference!

Making a difference with their campaign Bake For a Change, students of DP1 hosted the first bake sale to raise over 50,000 rupees which will be utilized for improving #QualityEducation in the community, targeting #SDG4.

Furthermore, the team and bakers decided to bake extra treats for the staff and patients of Sparsh Hospice – A Centre for Palliative Care for terminally ill patients next to the school campus.

ASSESSMENT OF LISTENING AND SPEAKING WITH A DIFFERENCE

Empowering Education through Action!

Our CBSE Grade 12 students took their ALS (Assessment of Listening and Speaking) to a whole new level by visiting government schools — NATCO, Kukatpally and Upper Primary School Gandipet, and engaging with underprivileged students as teachers.

Witnessing the transformative power of education, our students not only taught valuable lessons but also learned from the experience. Their reflections on this incredible journey will also be a part of their ASL assessment.

VISITING A GOVERNMENT SCHOOL

Spreading Joy and Seeds of Freedom!

Students of IBDP 1 embarked on a special CAS trip to Keshavnagar Govt. School, to share the essence of the tricolour, and fostering a deep understanding of our nation’s freedom. With gifts and seed pencils they sowed seeds of friendship and knowledge. Scroll through the excitement!

LAKE CLEANING

Nurturing a sense of responsibility towards our environment!!

Echoing the call for a cleaner, greener India, our young citizens of DP took the lead in keeping our nation pristine. A fantastic eco-adventure unfolded at the Mushki cheruvu lake as more that 30 dedicated Oakridgers took charge, collecting a whopping 500 kilograms of trash.

VISIT TO TELANGANA LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY

Learning about Constitution!

Students of Grade 5  went on a field trip to the “Telangana Legislative Assembly” in connection to the unit “How we organize ourselves”.

Students were amazed to see the temple of democracy where important decisions are made for the people, by the people elected. They were thrilled when they saw a copy of the constitution, which they learnt is the “Supreme law” of our country, kept in the legislative library.

A VISIT TO BIRLA PANETARIUM

Diving into the world of Space and Planets

In connection with the on-going unit under the theme ” Where we are in Place and Time” as a part of experiential learning, Grade 1 students visited the Birla Planetarium, where they got to see the show ‘The Hot and Energetic Universe.’

AT SUPERMARKET WITH GROCERY LIST

Planning and executing by making right choices!!

Through the systematic approach of grocery shopping — budgeting, picking items and doing the money transaction, PYP Grade 2 students are learning about healthy choices.

The learners planned to create a dish for which they went to a grocery store to purchase the ingredients required with a budget of Rs 500 per group.

STUDYING ROCK FORMATIONS AT BOTANICAL GARDEN

Education enhanced through diverse experiences!!

Here is how learners of Grade 3 acquired knowledge on ‘Landforms’ — by exploring through a fieldtrip to Botanical Garden’s conservation forest zone, the Deccan Rock formations left them utterly amazed. Also through creative models, these students showcased their knowledge of global landforms.

EXPLORING HISTORY AT QUTUB SHAHI TOMBS

A Tour of Architecture!

In connection to the  unit ” How we express ourselves”, learners of Grade 4 visited Qutub Shahi Tombs. They have collected information about the history of Qutub Shahi dynasty. They observed and recorded the information about design and the architecture of the tombs which enhanced their learning.

STORY-TELLING SESSION 

Diving into the world of stories

Our young listeners of Early Years were transported to magical realms, as the celebrated international storyteller and a National Awardee Educationalist, Ms. Deepa Kiran, conducted a captivating storytelling session for them.

Learners of EY2 not only enjoyed a wonderful opportunity but also gained valuable insights into different modes of self-expression.

IB PYP WORKSHOP

Exploring new horizons in Pedagogical Development!

Our PYP Teachers, attended the amazing IB Workshop on “Agency through Assessment Capacity” conducted by the IB Workshop Leader – Ms. Anne Van Dam.

The discussions were enriching as the teachers shared their practices, reflected upon them and brainstormed ideas to enable students so that they learn to self-regulate themselves and become better equipped to reach their goals.

Celebrating the joy of reading and literature at the junior library , #PYP students enthusiastically participated in the  ‘Book and Buddy’ event! They brought in their favorite books from home and shared them with their buddies during their library period.

 

FRIENDSHIP DAY

Friendship knows no age limits!

Our school’s vibrant community proves just that. When senior students of Gen Z reached out for friendship to Gen Alpha of Early Years , it brought smiles, laughter, and joy to our adorable juniors. From heartwarming conversations to exciting games, it was a day filled with pure happiness.
