Principal’s Letter – February 2022

  • 1 February 2022

Greetings from Oakridge International School, Bachupally!!!

The first month of this year has passed by despite the pandemic taking its toll in its variant ways. We, at Oakridge, Bachupally, have not left a stone unturned. Lots of achievements have come our way and we always pat our backs on these unusual but expected achievements. It is a great privilege to let you know the laurels that we got.

A group of students from Oakridge International School, Bachupally organized ‘TEDxOakridgeIntlSchoolBachupally’, an independently organized TEDx event on 8th Jan 2022. With electrifying energy, this student-led event observed empowering talks on this year’s theme, “Perfect Imperfections”. The event was an opportunity for the audience to branch out and connect with their perfect imperfections and go home with a mind full of “Ideas Worth Spreading.”

Several culturally based activities were conducted on the theme in music and dance by students, workshops like pottery, designed to exhibit the ideas of materialization of something beautiful, a pot from something quite imperfect. Even the visual identity of the event was based on the ‘Kintsugi’, a broken Japanese bowl mended with gold, with the spirit of Wabi-Sabi. The students and audience had novel experiences and great interactions with outstanding speakers ranging from Deepti Ravula, CEO of WeHub, Ms. Faria Abdullah, an actress, and students of Oakridge Bachupally – Ms. Ishvi, Ms. Simran, Mr. Shanyu, and Ms. Niva.

School Reopens – Phase wise:

We would like to inform you that our school will reopen phase-wise as per the directive from the Telangana Government and in the interest of protecting the health and safety of all our students and their families, from February 1, 2022. The students of grades 9-12 CAIE, IBDP, and CBSE will join the classes physically from February 1, 2022. I am pleased to inform you that all systems and processes & safety protocols are in place for the reopening of the school for other grade levels as well. We will wait for the right time, though. Our students back in school call for greater responsibility and a challenge. We will bring about the student loss of time, as a matter to be considered in building a seamless study pattern.

Sweepstakes

As it is rightly said that technology is the best when it brings people together: the Technocracy event hosted a platform for all our young enthusiasts of CBSE grades 6-12 to exhibit their ability to understand, adapt and integrate emerging tech trends into their learning. The event embraced the subline ‘Code Collab and Compete.’

The audience was enthralled to witness how young minds can excel if let free to fly and reach sky high in various events like coding, quizzes, and display of stunning projects based on STEAM and robotics, Sensors, Cyber security apps, Network Topologies, and many more.

We have conducted Talent Fest – Inter-House Competition from 21st – 23rd across the school for grades EY – 12 where students showcased their creativity and best talents through dance, drama, singing, music, and visual arts. Fest provided character‐building lessons during try‐outs, practice, and performance.

Sankranthi, a colorful festival was celebrated with all pomp and glory at Oakridge. We had a Kite festival wherein students flew kites of various colors and sizes. We also had the Rangoli competition for girls. Students at OISB are not only tech-savvy but also very traditional.

Equality Diversity and Inclusion-a concept, a journey, and a way of life to make this world a better place. Oakridge learners reflected through brainstorming, discussions, deep dive into social media, establishing connections, designing and implementing projects that made them grow and participate as sensitive individuals aware of some pre-existing beliefs of the society. Understanding inequalities in privilege, abilities, gender, and economy have been the key areas to unlearn and relearn through various staff, students, and parent involvement activities.

Career counseling in Action

We, at Oakridge, make sure that a child understands the importance and power of knowledge and develops an urge to learn more. That not only helps in accumulating world views but also helps in exposing his mind to the world of the unknown.

It is the discovery of unconventional paths that brings the ultimate joy and this is exactly where career counselors step in. We make sure that the students are exposed to the various blooming career opportunities through sessions with industry experts. Students of grades 6,7 and 8 also had the opportunity to understand careers and courses that they can aspire to choose as they move forward to higher grades.

As our Grade 10 students prepare to graduate to Grade 11, parents and students got the opportunity to engage in insightful discussions around careers and courses with our Career Counsellors Ms. Tiyasa and Ms. Sonia Prasad. Children were made aware of the varied career paths that are available under each stream and the way forward was discussed. Students of Grade 9 and 10 were taken through the career guidance portal BridgeU and informed about the various resources that they can explore to learn more about universities and courses offered across the globe.

Most of the grade 12 students have completed their Regular Decision applications to universities in the USA, UK, and Canada. We are glad to announce that Oakridge International School is declared as an authorized Advanced Placement (AP) Test center

At this juncture, I would also like to convey my special thanks to all the parents and students for entrusting & supporting us in all our endeavors. The parent-school partnership is something I firmly endorse and it is my aim that, together; we can provide the very best educational experience for all our students.
