Choosing the Right School for Siblings: What Parents Should Look For

  • 1 May 2025

What We Didn’t Expect When Our Kids Joined the Same School

Let’s talk about the juggling with kids in different schools, shall we? You know the drill. It’s not just about managing to drop-off kids in different locations, or following different schedules, or checking respective school apps but the mental gymnastics: remembering which child needs what.

Ever had one of those days? When your older child’s school starts early, you have to make their lunch at 6 a.m., go over their notes, and drop them up at the morning drill, which begins at 7 p.m. Just when you took a breather, you realized that the younger child’s school starts later and follows a completely different timetable. You then began hurrying to drop off the younger child.

From packing different lunch boxes as per the school policies to keeping a track of notifications from multiple school apps pinging away, somehow, we juggle it every day when kids are in different schools.

And sometimes, when you are trying to accommodate completely different holiday schedules, a little voice inside whispers, “Wouldn’t it be nice if both children could have been heading to the same school, sharing the same schedules, drop-offs, lunch menus, etc.”

Well, the perks we didn’t expected is that the daily chaos dialled down.

  • No more syncing mismatched holidays, or missing circulars, or shuttling across town – surging fuel bills with simplified logistics.
  • The parent-teacher communication just becomes easier and smoother.
  • Everything becomes more consistent and grounded because both children were raised with the same educational values and teaching style.

What we didn’t see coming? The little moments that made a big impact.

  • The older sibling turns to be a mentor who guides the younger, be it school routines or some advice, or even building their comfort level in the new school environment.
  • The younger sibling seems to be more confident entering the classroom as he already has someone in the school who is familiar. Because they knew their sibling was only a hallway away, which helps build emotional security.
  • The topics of conversation over dinner suddenly changed to jokes, mutual friends, and overlapping school tales.
  • We were not just parents of children but felt like a family being members of a wider, interconnected community.

Ultimately, it came down to peace of mind and that’s what truly matters. Seeing both of kids flourish under one roof gives that emotional feeling of peace. There’s more time for bonding, talking, and cuddling since there’s less racing around. Putting children in the same school strengthens family bond. Witnessing the everyday moments spent together, the shared experiences, and the way both children evolve in their own special ways in the same nurturing setting is priceless.
