D.E.A.R. Week Celebrations provided students with much more than a just-sit-there-and-read experience. It gave the teacher and the parent structured time to touch base with each child over a week to assess progress in their reading . Even more important, it gave students time to read what they wanted to read, share what they’ve read, and receive the support they need for further reading explorations and reflections. This activity motivated many parent to setup reading corners at home and take time each day to read books aloud to children thus stimulating their imagination and expanding their understanding of the world.
