Oakridge International School, Visakhapatnam hosted a 3 -day student conference on Ocean Conservation from Nov 10th to 12th 2016, in their Tagarapuvalasa campus, in association with the Dolphin Nature Conservation Society, Visakhapatnam. Students of Grades 6th to 11th attended this conference and listened to thought-provoking speeches by Dr.G.T.Vijay Kumar – Geologist, Dr.Rama Murthy – Founder DNCS, Ms.Usha Shri –Joint Secretary DNCS and Ms.Shivani – Secretary DNCS. In this interactive workshop, student delegates attended two field trips to Bheemli and YMCA beaches to explore the problems of Coastal Erosion and its root causes and to understand the nesting behaviour, mortality, and conservation of Olive Ridley Sea Turtles. During this conference, delegates from Oakridge Bangalore Campus, Vikas Mahila Vidya Niketan and SFS school of Vizag exchanged their innovative ideas. They thanked Oakridge Vizag for giving them this opportunity to know the organisms of the ocean and to understand the effects of coastal erosion on their lives. The conference ended with student presentations on proposed real-time projects, based on the theme of Ocean Conservation. The projects are expected to be completed by the students before Dec 12th. School Director Amit Jain, Vice Principal Prem Prakash Sahu participated on the inaugural and final day of the conference and encouraged students to complete their chosen projects on time.
