Oakridgers had a playful math education carnival
Do you enjoy math? The actual fun in math is the time when you solve the problem through. Won’t you agree?
Mathematics is an art. For many it’s interesting and for many it’s boring. As boring as mathematics may seem, the study translates into benefits for education as well as for our life in general. Mathematics helps us to have analytical thinking skills, which develops the ability to investigate and know the truth about the world around us.
With thinking skills, mathematics quickens our minds and helps us to deepen and think when we are faced with complex problems. Our life is composed largely of situations of choice, approach, reasoning and facing problems to which solutions have to be found. In that sense, mathematics helps you to open your mind and to understand that there is only one way to solve things.
Math also makes your child smarter. For learning, it’s the same as the strength and durability of the sport. Because sports need skills to think smart and critically, to which math to a large extent, can help them with that. Ramanujan, the famous mathematician found his interest in critical problems.
In 1911, Ramanujan published the first of his papers in the journal of the Indian Mathematical Society. Ramanujan traveled to England in 1914, where Hardy tutored him and collaborated with him in some research. The number 1729 is known as the Hardy-Ramanujan number after a famous visit by Hardy to see Ramanujan at a hospital. Hardy observed Ramanujan’s work primarily involved fields less known even amongst other pure mathematicians.
In 2011, on the 125th anniversary of his birth, the Indian Government declared that 22 December will be celebrated every year as National Mathematics Day. Then Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also declared that the year 2012 would be celebrated as the National Mathematics Year.
To commemorate the birthday of the Indian mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan, Oakridge, known to be one of the top IGCSE Schools in Chandigarh organized Math Carnival. It was organized with the objective of creating awareness about the importance of mathematics in day-to-day life situation and in order create interest of the students towards the subject, different activities were undertaken in school such as number line activity, mathematical shapes concept, Fun with numbers, number system, Making 3D shapes, Tangrams, Ramanujan infinite tiles and washi tape fun angles.
