Hyderabad kids from Oakridge International School have taken up an initiative called #KindnessCalling, which is going viral each day. Through this initiative, they are inspiring many people on how doing small acts of kindness can make a big difference to the world. Just in a couple of months, they have performed around 410 acts of kindness. With an aim to spread the word, they posted each act of kindness on their social networks with the hashtag #KindnessCalling urging their family and friends to take up the same challenge. “#KindnessCalling initiative at Einstein Campus has immensely inculcated values such as empathy, gratitude, and compassion among our students,” says Hema Sanjay, Principal of Oakridge Bachupally.” Further, she added “The energy that they use in carrying out the kind acts has affected everyone involved in a motivating and inspiring way. At Oakridge, there is no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple touching others’ lives and inspiring kindness everywhere the wave goes.”
There were a few remarkable acts that left everyone spellbound. Ananya Polishetty, a passionate photographer of Grade 10 from Oakridge who came up with an unbelievable idea to channelize her creative energies for the noble cause of education. Using her photography skills, she creates a calendar and donates the proceeds to the India Literacy Project which would support quality education to the underprivileged kids. Even a small contribution makes a big difference. Pratima Suryadevara Tummala of Grade 5, another Oakridger who opened her arms to the homeless people and fed the hungry beggars with her own hands in Hyderabad. She also contributed to sound and music healing for young cancer patients. During this initiative, students school-wide performed random acts of kindness like donating blankets, sponsoring education, planting seeds, adopting homeless animals, donating clothes to charity, and much more. These Oakridgers have left no stone unturned.
The objective behind the “#KindnessCalling” initiative is to spread kindness all over the world and encourage more people to practice kindness in their everyday lives. When the practice becomes a habit, one cannot stop helping even a stranger in need. “Kindness Calling has spread all over social media sites wherein Oakridgers bring out their compassionate side through various undertakings. It is truly a noble initiative and one which we believe a multitude of people should undertake” said Sarvesh Paradkar, Head Boy of Oakridge. To this, Mouthika Garimella, the Head Girl of Oakridge added “Oakridge has taken up the highly applauded initiative of “Kindness Calling”, encouraging the young minds of the future to express their empathy through their actions. It is indeed a very purposeful venture and something which, we hope, will be taken up by a number of people.”
