How Grade V Oakridgers realized the Importance of Communication Skills?
Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place to another. An effective spoken communication requires being able to express your ideas and views clearly, confidently and concisely in speech, tailoring your content and style to the audience and promoting free-flowing communication.
Being able to communicate effectively is the most important of all life skills. It may be vocal, written, visual or non-verbal. How well a piece of information can be transmitted and received is a measure of how good our communication skills are.
Your voice can reveal as much about your personal history as your appearance.
The sound of a voice and the content of speech can provide clues to an individual’s emotional state and a dialect can indicate their geographic roots.
The voice is unique to the person to whom it belongs.
The ability to accurately receive and interpret messages in the communication process.
The key to all effective communication. Without the ability to listen effectively, messages are easily misunderstood.
Presenting a piece of information clearly and effectively is a key skill to get your message or opinion across and, today, presentation skills are required in almost every field.
To observe these skills, Grade V students were grouped in pairs. Every student has their buddies in their class, and hence, one of the buddies were given the printouts of 2D and 3D shapes.
The other buddy had to draw exactly the same picture while listening to the instructions provided by their buddies. This way, the students reflected on the Importance of an Effective Communication Skills while doing Group Work. With this activity, students realized and became well aware of the Importance of Sub-Skills of Listening, Speaking, and Presentation.
